New Life Centre schoolgirls get prepared for future

PRESIDENT PARK – New Life Centre for Girls got a visit from VC Cares and Career Centre who gave advice on choosing subjects.

In celebration of Youth Day on 16 June, the VC Cares and Career Centre team of the Independent Institute of Education Varsity College Waterfall Campus held a career empowerment event at New Life Centre For Girls.

Student wellness manager at the college, Dineo Maseko said New Life Centre For Girls director, Khopotso Nakin had mentioned during their previous visit that some of the girls struggled to choose subjects when they started Grade 10 because they were not sure of the career fields they wanted to follow. “Nakin further mentioned that some girls don’t always know what to do after matric.”

Maseko added, “The VC Cares team therefore took it upon themselves to organise a career empowerment event in commemoration of Youth Day, to empower the girls with information regarding various career fields, and to motivate them to work hard towards their goals and to never give up.”

Maseko said the event was organised for and attended by all the girls at New Life Centre, including the younger girls because it was important to start nurturing their aspirations from an early age.

Nakin said that she was honoured that the college responded to their call for assistance.

“To me, it is important to see our young girls not only ending up in matric but studying further and acquiring a degree and more,” Nakin explained.

“It will be good one day to have doctors from New Life home.”

Nakin concluded that their aim was to start introducing the girls to different careers at an early stage so they would be able to choose subjects that would suit their choice of profession.
