Suspects are caught in Midrand

MIDRAND – According to the Midrand Police Station’s spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, a victim alleged that he was defrauded of R10 000 by three so-called traditional doctors last week in Esselen Park, Tembisa.


According to the Midrand Police Station’s spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, a victim alleged that he was defrauded of R10 000 by the three traditional doctors. The victim claimed that he had paid the money for services which were not provided.

The victim said the traditional doctors wanted more money from him and they set up a meeting with him in Midrand for collection of the cash. The victim then informed the police about the arrangement.

“The Midrand police tracing team set up an intelligence-driven operation to arrest the suspects which was successful. The suspects were driving a black BMW and they met with the victim at the corner of Old Pretoria and Alexander roads in Halfway House to collect the cash.

“Police approached their vehicle but the driver decided to flee the scene. The suspects’ vehicle was chased until cornered at Third Road in Halfway Gardens.”

Mabulane added that all three suspects were arrested and detained at Midrand Police Station and appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on 14 May to answer to charges of fraud.

Midrand Police Station’s Acting Commander Colonel David Mahloromela applauded the members for acting swiftly in apprehending the suspects.

“We urge the community to be very careful around such people and avoid paying for services online that they have not seen [physically].” said Mahloromela.
