The Midrand Police Station held Operation Okae Molao on 22 May, with the help of other departments to combat criminal activity in the area.

The other departments included the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, National Traffic Police and the Johannesburg District Police members.

The crew conducted a road block at the Olifantsfontein and Lever Road intersections in Midrand. According to Constable Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand police, the police were able to arrest a suspect who were in possession of drugs on the day while others were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mabulane added that one liquor outlet was also closed down and a fine was issued to the owners after they allegedly operated the venue without a valid license.

“Midrand police will continue on enforcing the laws to keep our community safe. Any person found to be at the wrong side of the law will face the mighty hand of the law without mercy.

“As part of the South African Police Service we will continue the fight against crime as well as corruption and crime against humanity, with support from the Community Policing Forum, Sector Community Forum patrollers, private security companies and emergency medical services, bridging the gap, bringing our members closer to their stakeholders as well as strengthening accountability,” he added.

Mabulane encouraged residents to follow the Midrand CPF Facebook page.

“Corruption is a crime against humanity and we are encouraging the community to report corruption activities to the police. The people who know that police are receiving money or are accepting bribes are encouraged to report to our anti-corruption unit,” he concluded.
