Ward councillor shares her requests for IDP

VORNA VALLEY – Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said that she has prioritised the intersections needing slip lanes because of the issue of traffic on the roads.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said she has made a number of submissions to the City of Johannesburg’s Integrated Development Plan on behalf of her ward.

A draft of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) released by the City had budgeted about R681 million to Region A, which includes the Fourways and Midrand areas, for the 2021/22 financial year.

Deppe said that she has prioritised the intersections needing slip lanes because of the issue of traffic on the roads. “Slip lanes on Allandale Road and 7th Road are not aligned, therefore every truck which passes there drives over the kerb inlets on the intersection and breaks them.

“On Albertyn Street and Harry Galaun Drive, the road gets over-capacitated by the number of cars that drive through that intersection. Building slip lines is the only way I can see us having more flowing traffic on these intersections.”

Deppe has made the following service delivery requests to the City:

• Installation of a double lane for Harry Galaun Drive from 7th Road to Elizabeth Fry Street and the installation of double lanes on Le Roux Avenue from Janadal Avenue to Allandale Road

• Slip lanes on Harry Galaun Drive and Albertyn Street as well as Harry Galaun Drive and 7th Road slip lanes on all four corners

• The extension of 7th Road, from Van Heerden Road through to Janadal Avenue

• The tarring of Old Road and Duncan Road and new surface tarring on Anton Hartman Street from Greig Street to Harry Galaun Drive

• Fence installation around mini-sub at T-junction of Greig Street and Anton Hartman Street

• Pavements on Le Roux Avenue and Berger Street

• Transport master plan on the R55 in Kyalami

• Formalised taxi physicality in Vorna Valley and the R55 in Kyalami

• Installation of gym equipment in the Barbeque Downs Community Park.

Deppe explained that it is also the responsibility of community members to request service delivery in their area as well as to highlight their needs to the City of Joburg through the IDP system.

“They have public meetings for residents who don’t have smartphones to submit service delivery requests. But you have phones, you can submit on your own the City expects you to be active citizens.”

She concluded that each councillor submits requests on behalf of the residents and hers was based on how many queries she had received over the year for issues raised by her residents.
