Two founders of New Jerusalem Children’s Home are praised for their efforts

MIDRAND – The Mojapelo sisters were awarded for their selfless and outstanding contributions to the community on 22 May.

Two Midrand community members were awarded certificates for their selfless and outstanding contributions to the community.

The Mojapelo sisters, Advocate Anna Mojapelo-Difo and Phina Mojapelo were commended for their work in the community through their non-profit organisation, New Jerusalem Children’s Home which is based in Midrand.

Their awards were presented by the International Relations Deputy Minister, Candith Mashego-Dlamini on 22 May at the Ditsong National Museum of Cultural History in Pretoria. The colourful Africa Day Celebration was organised by the World Women Leading Change and Mangwana Global Organisation. This year is celebrated as the Year of Charlotte Maxeke to pay tribute to her activism.

The two sisters have championed the rights and welfare of children and youth for over 21 years. World Women Leading Change’s president, Debbie Raphuti, applauded them for their hard work and contributions, adding that they were ‘walking the talk’, implementing one of the seven aspirations of Agenda 2063 plan. “These women are true mangwanas (mothers), they embody the philanthropic ways of the great Maxeke,” she added.

Upon receiving the award, Mojapelo-Difo said, “We are humbled and grateful for the recognition we have received in this Africa Day Celebration. The certificates brought tears of joy and happiness to our hearts. We remembered the painful memories of the difficult terrain we had travelled in supporting and raising more than 1 000 children in our children’s home.

“This award is for the children and youth whom we dearly love and serve, this award is for all our donors and sponsors who have supported New Jerusalem Children’s Home and continue to believe in our causes to champion the rights of the children and youth, particularly in their welfare and education.”

She concluded that together they will keep on marching forward until all children and youth are free from physical and emotional abuse.
