Empowering victims of GBV

MIDRAND – Mabulane said he feels called to serve his country and risk his life for the good of the community.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Eliot Mabulane wants to use his bad experiences to empower victims of gender-based violence.

Speaking to the Midrand Reporter, Mabulane said he grew up in a home where his stepfather abused him and his mother. “I have witnessed my mom being stabbed, beaten and running in the street shouting for help to no avail,” said Mabulane.

“Through difficulties, I have never opted for criminality, but stayed put to reach my destiny.”

Mabulane said that he longed to become a police officer and solve issues of gender-based violence.

Looking back he said, “It seemed normal for me growing up to see men beating women.

“I am now a man in blue to defend those who are affected by this conduct. I am ready to serve to get rid of such kinds of men in our society.”

Mabulane said that he has never laid a hand on a woman. “I do not contribute to the shallow graves dug for women and children, but instead put my life in danger to save the innocent.”

Mabulane said he feels called to serve his country and risks his life for the good of the community. “I am aware of the confrontation I will get from those who intend to break the law.”

Mabulane concluded, “It is not easy, but it is a calling to be in the police and I have laid down my life for the community to live theirs freely – without fear.”
