Midrand police worried about the rise in cirme

MIDRAND – Constable Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station said police were battling with robberies within the Midrand area.

Midrand police are concerned about the level of crime that continues to rise in the area.

Constable Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station said police were battling with robberies in the area.

Mabulane added that since the beginning of May about nine cases of armed robberies were opened at the station.

“Other related cases are cases of shoplifting where a mall in Waterfall has become a hotspot. Most of the suspects identified were allegedly hailing from Soweto and Johannesburg central, flocking to commit crimes in Midrand.”

Mabulane said affected stations would use tracing teams to track down suspects.

He added that one suspect was also arrested for possession and dealing in drugs and is due to appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court. “We believe and trust that the justice system will convict this suspect so that it can serve as an example to others who are still [dealing] drugs that affect many lives,” said Mabulane.

He added that in some instances, drug addicts resorted to crime to help pay for their addiction. “Indeed, if these [dealers] are taken off the streets, we believe the crime rate in Midrand will be eased. The police are developing new strategies daily to address and root out crime within the area,” he concluded.
