The Rabie Ridge Police Station held an operation on 31 March which led to the arrest of individuals who were in possession of Metropolitan police uniforms.
According to the station’s spokesperson Sergeant Jacob Nhlongo, a team consisting of Ekurhulni North Crime Informants, Rabie Ridge crime prevention unit members and detectives, followed a lead and searched two houses in the Rabie Ridge area. Upon their arrival at one of the houses, a 40-year-old suspect jumped the wall and ran away.
“Police continued to search the premises and in his room, we found three unlicensed firearms, with serial numbers filed off, placed inside a toiletry bag.”
The officers recovered a number of unlicensed firearms, magazines and ammunition.
Nlhongo said the father of the suspect unlocked a store room, utilised by the son, and the officers found an unlicensed Beretta pistol as well as five Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) caps, two EMPD shirts, three EMPD reflector jackets, two South African Police Service reflector jackets, one 16-channel signal jammer machine, three blue lights, two hand radios, three EMPD trousers, a siren, a tracker finder and two pairs of police safety boots.
“After the find, the suspect’s girlfriend and his father were also arrested,” said Nhlongo.
“The operation team proceeded to another house where a search was conducted and one toy gun was seized.”
The Rabie Ridge Police Station Commander Colonel Johanna Ngoma applauded the team for their swift response and thanked the community members for working together with the police in order to remove crime generators in communities.
