Through the Art of Giving initiative, Curro Midrand made the recent Easter holiday one to remember for many.
Curro Midrand embarked on a massive Easter Egg Drive from 15 March to 24 March, collecting Easter eggs for non-profit organisations Hearts of Hope, Botshabelo Babies Home and Preschool, Thutuzela Orphanage and Safe Haven Village, all based in the Midrand area.
As part of the school’s first charity initiative for the year, learners were encouraged to donate Easter eggs, and the class that brought in the most eggs would be allowed to wear civvies on last day of the school term.
Dr Vanitha Govindasamy, the primary school head at Curro Midrand, said the outreach programme aimed to promote participation in initiatives that supported their community. “As a school we wish to instill in our learners the importance of giving back to our community and in turn develop a sense of awareness for those less fortunate, as well as developing good morals and values among our learners,” Govindasamy added.
She said learners collected more than 15 000 Easter eggs. “We hope that this little art of giving brought a smile to the children’s faces during these unsettling times, making Easter more special for those less fortunate.
“We believe that every small act of kindness can spread smiles and positivity during these tough times.”
Upon receiving their donation on 25 March, Botshabelo Babies Home and Preschool shared their appreciation for the donation. Admin and fundraiser manager for Botsabelo, Mosa Lehana, said on behalf of their children they were grateful that the Easter eggs put a smile on their children’s faces. “Our preschoolers had an Easter egg hunt on 31 March as they close for term one. Thank you to everyone that made this happen.”
