Couple to face murder charges in court soon

WATERFALL – The girl had minor injuries in her left cheek and it is suspected that she might have been strangled, said Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand police.

A couple was arrested in Waterfall on 11 April after they allegedly murdered their six-year-old daughter at a hotel in the area.

According the Midrand Police Station’s spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, the police arrested a 27-year-old female together with her 25-year-old boyfriend.

He explained that police were contacted to attend to a murder case, where station commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso was present at the scene and assessed it.

Mabulane said, “The girl had minor injuries in her left cheek and it is suspected that she might have been strangled.”

Mabulane added that the man and woman were foreign nationals who can not be named due to ongoing investigations.

However, he said that a case of murder had been opened at the Midrand Police Station.

“The accused and her co-accused are to appear in court soon to answer to all allegation brought against them,” Mabulane concluded.

Tsotsotso condemned the act and said children should be protected by their parents, rather than becoming their victims.

He said, “We urge community members to report any level of abuse, be it minor or serious, to try and curb cases of gender-based violence and femicide.”
