Witkoppen Primary gets new stationery and football equipment thanks to fan club

WITKOPPEN – A new partnership between the Liverpool Football Fan Club and Witkoppen Primary School sees the school receiving new items for the learners.

Paulshof-based Liverpool Fan Club handed over new stationery and soccer balls to Witkoppen Primary School on 12 March.

A member of the club, Albert Gumbo said the club’s ethos was to work with the less fortunate and give back to the community as much as possible. “We decided we wanted to be associated with education and children since education is a critical cog in the country’s future development,” he told the Fourways Review.

“We are going to be doing this every year in contributing to the school.” Gumbo said this was the first time the club had made a contribution such as this to an organisation or school, and it was supposed to take place last year but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Acting principal of Witkoppen Primary, Philemon Mashimbyi said the school was incredibly grateful for the donation. The school’s head of department, Oupa Molekwa accepted the items on his behalf as Mashimbyi was in a meeting.

“We, as a school, want to say thanks to the fan club for their work and donation to the school,” he said. “We are grateful to them for helping us ensure the learners continue with the education they deserve and need. We are excited to continue this partnership with them.”

Gumbo concluded that they were hoping to donate reading books to the learners as well.
