Southdowns College prides itself on high academic standards and achievements

In order to achieve outstanding matric results year after year, the college starts the learning journey at a much earlier age.

2020 could very easily be classified as the most challenging year for matrics, parents and pupils alike. The challenges that were overcome, makes the matric results of 2020 even more significant. We are extremely proud and humbled by the achievements of our 2020 matric group. Our matric results can once again be used to confirm our high academic standards and achievements in all subjects.

100% Matric Pass rate

At Southdowns College, we believe in Carol Dweck’s premise of a Growth Mindset that states that intelligence can grow because the mind is malleable. We develop young people who are accustomed to working under pressure and thinking out of the box.

Academic Enrichment program

Our educational philosophy is to develop young people of integrity who are also independent, lifelong learners. In order to achieve outstanding matric results year after year, we start the journey at a much earlier age. From Grade Eight right through to Grade 12 our teachers incorporate Global Citizenship which entails teaching 21st century skills, which are vital in tertiary studies, as well as in the workplace today. Careful planning and adjustment of the curriculum from Grade Eight to 12 enables us to streamline the work our pupils learn.

Where your child will matter

On a more practical note, we offer Tuesday evening classes in order to take additional pressure off of completing the required work in a very short and busy Grade 12 year. Our pupils are able to book academic growth lessons on a daily basis in order to get the support needed immediately. In essence, our pupils and teachers put in a huge amount of time, effort and meticulous preparation in order to be successful. It’s not just about the results, but about the journey getting to the results.
