The organisation, established in 2013, equips youth with life skills through mentoring, coaching, reading and academic support locally.

Founder Modjadji Selowe said the organisation based at Lord Khanyile Youth Centre was able to distribute their first batch of school shoes to learners in the community.

She added that the shoe drive initiative was in its second year.

“We rely on the help from friends and relatives to donate the shoes to us then we distribute them. In some instances, we take the torn or worn out ones for repairs and donate them as well.”

She emphasised the importance of the shoe drive initiative. “We know and understand the plight of poverty in our own families and communities as the leaders of the organisation. We donate because we care and are passionate about education.

“Ideally [the learners will] take care of the gifts and use this as an opportunity to take education seriously.”

Selowe said community members could also lend a helping hand and build a strong nation of young educated South Africans by sending their children to Lebone for mentoring and coaching sessions. These lessons are provided to youngsters for free.

“Parents and guardians can register their children for our extra classes, weekly and Saturdays as well.”
