Stern warning is issued to park vandals

IVORY PARK – Region A Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo manager, Joseph Ndou warns that if they find people vandalising public facilities they are going to work hand in hand with law enforcers.

Region A Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo recently issued a stern warning after unknown locals vandalised Molatsi Community Park near Swazi Inn in Ivory Park.

Regional manager for City Parks, Joseph Ndou, said that on 6 February he received a call from one of their team leaders who reported vandalism taking place in the park.

Ndou explained that not long after, he received a call from the local councillor reporting the same issue as well as that some locals were stealing bricks from the park’s pavement.

He said, “Before reacting, I called our facility manager to check if a contractor was appointed to the site to demolish and he said [it was not the case].”

Ndou continued, “Our team leader and myself then opened a case at the Ivory Park Police Station.”

Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane confirmed that a case was opened for vandalising state property.

Ndou said City Parks had submitted insurance claim forms so that the park could be repaired to its former state.

To ensure the safety of children who played in the park, City Parks pleaded with the community to take ownership of public spaces and to also act as custodians for future generations and report all illegal and criminal activities to City Parks and Zoo on 011 712 6600 or call the Ivory Park Police Station on 011 310 0410.
