The local youth give back

IVORY PARK – Youth-led, Leth'Ukhanya Foundation donated toiletries and uniforms to the local Bulamahlo Orphanage.

The Leth’ Ukukhanya Community Development Projects, made a friendly visit to the Bulamahlo Home in Ivory Park on 31 January, gifting the home with much-needed essentials.

One of the founders of the foundation, Molebogeng, Pule said that after interacting with the home’s management they had an idea of what their organisation needed to contribute. On the day of the delivery drop-off, they then donated clothes, toiletries and school uniforms.

“The orphanage needed toiletries so we helped them where we can. It wasn’t much but we did the little we can. While doing all that we made sure that we were wearing masks the entire time and using hand sanitisers at all times.

“We also appreciate the help from our community members whom we asked to help us by donating uniforms, now the children can look presentable and not feel left out when they attend school.”

Clive Sekgobela, a staff member at the orphanage, welcomed the donations with open arms saying that it was humbling for them to receive donations from young people who really care about other children.

“The lockdown is giving us a challenge since we rely more on donations and a lot of people are scared of paying us a visit because of Covid-19.

“But there are a few needs we still do have, we need help with food and since schools will be opening soon, school stationery will be our first priority. We also need volunteers who will come to our home and help our children with their studies; we are not limited to anything, any help is welcome.”

Sekgobela added that without the public’s assistance they cannot achieve anything. He said that it takes a village to raise a child so their involvement will really play a big role in the organisation. “They should share information on how to grow our organisations, where to go to for help, because there are a lot of people out there who would love to help but they don’t know which organisations to reach out to.”
