Ward 80 councillor encourages residents to collect a new bin

RABIE RIDGE – Ward 80 councillor Makgoba Pagadi announced that Pikitup would no longer be collecting waste in the old bins as the 240- litre wheelie bins are the only bins eligible for waste removal.

Rabie Ridge’s Ward 80 councillor, Makgoba Pagadi, made a public announcement to community members regarding the logging of complaints and Pikitup services in the ward.

Pagadi said that community members must be aware that from 11 January, Pikitup would no longer be collecting waste from the old dustbins and plastic bags. “The City of Johannesburg Municipality employees advised residents that only the new 240-litre bins on wheels would be eligible for waste collection.

“The new bins were distributed by the municipality in the latter part of last year. Residents are urged to visit the Ivory Park Lord Khanyile Community Hall or the Ebony Park Pay Point with their water bill’s and the homeowner’s identification document to receive the new bin.”

He also stressed that residents should remember that it was a punishable crime to dump waste illegally and should a resident witness illegal dumping they should report it to 080 872 3342.

Pagadi added that community members should know who to contact for any queries they do have with regard to service delivery or emergencies.

He concluded, “If members of the community would like to log a complaint relating to City Power services, they can do so after four hours of experiencing a power outage, and 24 hours if they are related to Johannesburg Water. If ever nothing is done in the stated times, one can escalate their matter using their address details and their reference number on 072 171 2060 or 073 123 5396.”
