ICYMI: Mayibuye Primary School learners get sanitary pads

MAYIBUYE – The Mayibuye Charity Group donated over one hundred sanitary pads at the Mayibuye Primary School to the Grade 7 learners.

Mayibuye Charity Group donated more than 100 sanitary pads to Mayibuye Primary School’s Grade 7 learners on 10 December.

Kwena Ramoroka of the club said the reason they decided to make the donation was because most learners at the school did not have parents.

“They must use them when they need to and we have supplied enough for them to go get some more from their teachers when they do run out of pads, we hope this initiative will ease their stress as many are challenged,” added Ramoroka.

The learners were also educated on gender-based violence and how they should go about reporting it. Teachers also told the learners to trust them with sharing any challenges so they could help.

Learner Catryona Dziva (13) shared some motivational words and expressed gratitude upon receiving the sanitary pads. “I would like to motivate all the young girls being abused to always stay positive and never give up, it is not the end of life and to never try and commit suicide because there is still life out there,” she said.

“I urge them to speak out and ask for help from people that they trust and never protect the abuser or the perpetrator. I would like to thank the Mayibuye Charity Group for donating sanitary pads because they saw a need in the community as some parents cannot afford to buy sanitary pads for their children.”

Mayibuye Primary School principal Kgabo Rammutla welcomed the donations saying that the school felt special, “Not every school was chosen but us, and that says we are privileged just for being chosen. May the giving hand be blessed. The donation is so valuable beyond measure.

“Just imagine what it means to the needy learners. Sanitary pads are a need for every woman and there is no alternative irrespective of whether you can afford it or not. If a learner would feel down and different because she is on her period and can’t hide it, surely there would be no confidence to come the next day.”
