Waterfall Athletics Club looks back

MIDRAND – Watefall Athletics Club chairman encourages the community to join them next year but most importantly to look after their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing over the festive season.

The Waterfall Athletics Club shared their memories from this year, and their hopes for the new year.

The club’s chairman Velile Memela said that they are happy to have reached close to 300 members, “We launched a book club and hosted the likes of Mteto Nyathi, Nolitha Fakude, Dikgang Moseneke. We raised funds for Botshabelo, organised a Women’s Day run called, ‘In her honor’ and organised training runs in compliance with Covid-19 regulations.

“The lows are not being able to do races, like Comrades and Two Oceans Marathon, not being able to engage with members regularly, some members losing their sources of income due to the pandemic and not being able to host events.”

Memela added that he hopes next year they will see an increase in people taking health seriously and running with them. “We would like to get Midrand community members to run races and cater for them at races. We wish to host our usual events, raise more money for charity, continue to develop our junior athletes and help them to reach their ultimate potential and most importantly, host our first official race.

“To the community, travel safe, cherish and enjoy time with family, rest and look after your emotional, physical and mental health. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.”
