Botshabelo share their message for 2020

MIDRAND – Botshabelo shares their year-end message for 2020.

Blue Hills non-profit organisation Botshabelo have shared their successes and frustrations from 2020.

Managing director of the organisation Michelle Hinrichsen said, “This year was set to be an exhilarating year of celebrations and milestone-marking for Botshabelo’s 20th birthday. We had a big birthday bash planned, and many other events in the pipeline. And then, Covid-19 came along and interrupted everyone’s plans. We took a moment to celebrate on the 10th of March with our staff, Botshabelo founders and our beneficiaries, just before lockdown.”

The organisation’s frustrations stemmed from funding and securing finances. “Our team’s well-being and job security are of the utmost importance to us. Despite the funding landscape’s drastic change for the NPO sector, we have seen huge generosity from our community.”

She added, “This year, Covid-19 and all the perils we have faced have shown us, once again, the immense generosity and resilience of our nation. Covid-19 caused some havoc with our babies home with quarantine rules, new babies, documentation issues and many other delays. But in this last half of 2020, we have been privileged enough to witness six of our children united with their forever families.”

The organisation’s greatest success was the launch of an Emergency Covid Relief Sponsorship package so that children in Olievenhoutbosch could attend school, their parents could go find work, and the school receives an income. “This fund is made possible by the Anglo American Ambassadors for Good programme, and we are grateful.”

As they walk into 2021 the organisation have exciting developments including the launch of their Urban Kids EduCentre’s online preschool. “We have big plans for a big future and need big partners to join hands with us. If you are an individual or a company, a church or a group, looking to make an impact, please consider Botshabelo.”

Hinrichsen urged the local community to consider engaging in their Gift, Gather, Give collection which calls for them to give by donating the cost of a Christmas lunch, gather donations from friends and family, and gift babies with their most needed essentials.
