Residents get problems sorted at open day in Rabie Ridge

RABIE RIDGE – The City of Johannesburg helped the Rabie Ridge community members sort out their rates and tax billing.

The City of Johannesburg held a Billing Query Open Day at Rabie Ridge Community Hall on 14 November to help sort out ratepayers’ issues.

Zukiswa Lebeko, the acting head of Region A Revenue Department said they brought in five departments to assist the community. This included water, electricity, sewage, refuse and rates.

“We have called upon all dependencies, systems or departments within the City to be in one place so we can address everything,” Lebeko explained. “For example, if one has an issue with change of ownership and there is a problem which needs the rates and value department involved, that department is here and that query can be solved with immediate effect.

“The intention is to address all the queries with regards to billing in this area of Rabie Ridge based on the challenges that they have – one being the ESP [Expanded Social Package] because the City has an ESP indigent programme to assist people who do not work and those who earn less.”

Lebeko added that the Covid-19 pandemic had forced them to take their services online for a while. “Walk-ins into departments were banned for a while and we noticed that some people could not do their billing or ESP online.

“Therefore with this open day, we wanted them to come register or renew their ESPs, as well as to address all the other problems they have in terms of the City’s revenue.”
