Rabie Ridge police conduct Okae Molao operation

MIDRAND– Rabie Ridge Police impounded nine taxis and gave out 20 traffic fines at their Operation Okao Molao on Allandale Road.

The Rabie Ridge Police Station led an Okae Molao Operation in Rabie Ridge on 12 November by conducting a roadblock on Allandale Road.

The roadblock was held with the help of members from the Ekurhuleni District Police Service, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the main focus of the operation was also on visibility, stop-and-searches, searching for drugs, second-hand goods compliance and illegal shebeens among other things.

“The Rabie Ridge Police Station Commander, Colonel Johanna Ngoma has encouraged members not to turn a blind eye on suspicious vehicles and people, this after experiencing a spike in crimes escalating in the area from last week whereby firearms including toy guns were involved.”

Nhlongo added that nine vehicles were already impounded at the roadblock on Allendale Road in the early hours of the morning.

“Nine taxis were impounded by the taxi violence team, 20 traffic fines were issued, three people were arrested for dealing in marijuana, one person was arrested for dealing in dagga and being in possession of live ammunition.

“In total, we were able to search a record 505 people and 232 motor vehicles on the day. All the arrested people will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court to answer for the charges brought against them.”

Nhlongo pleaded that people should keep their guard up as they head into the festive season. “As we are heading towards the festive season, there will be instances where stokvel money will be shared among members. We encourage people to do transfers and not carry cash.

“Those who will be going to the malls with their kids are reminded to look after them as well, as many kids get lost and some get arrested for walking out with items without those items being paid for.”
