Three suspects are still at large following Kyalami shoot-out

KYALAMI – Midrand police have arrested one suspect following a shootout along the R55 in Kyalami.

Midrand police have opened a case of attempted murder and possession of stolen items following a shoot-out in Kyalami.

Spokesperson for the Midrand police, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the incident occurred on 12 November in the early hours of the morning when a patrolling officers noticed a suspicious grey Toyota Corolla along the R55, which was after the Covid-19 national lockdown curfew.

The police immediately signalled for the vehicle to stop, however, the suspects began shooting at the officers.

The police returned fire and one suspect was shot in his left leg while the other three suspects fled the scene.

Upon further investigation, the police found two plasma screen TVs in the backseat of the car which were covered in grass. The 32-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of stolen items.

“The police are currently searching for the three suspects and are attempting to link the stolen items to any open robbery investigations,” Tlamela said.
