Resident is on a mission to clean the Jukskei River

MIDRAND– The Sean Williams Living Creatures Trust is on the verge of undertaking a huge task and community members are urged to get involved.

The Sean Williams Living Creatures Trust, a public benefit organisation based in Fourways, has appealed for help to carry out a cleaning project on 21 November along the Jukskei River.

Sean Williams, the founder of the organisation, explained that the funds needed will not just help clean the river from Midrand to Fourways but will also be utilised to create jobs for unemployed people in and around the area.

“We are looking at employing 20 unemployed people for one week, whose main priority will be to feed themselves and their families and earn money doing a job that is about cleaning up this planet, and they will hopefully see the severity of this plastic pollution and change their habits at their homes as well,” said Williams.

“I want to save our rivers and oceans from plastic pollution and I am determined to change the world and how people come back to their roots, which is ‘Planet First and not Them First’.”

The Sean Williams Living Trust has so far raised R9 000 and needs an additional R21 000 in order to cover all costs of cleaning up the Jukskei, “Community members can contribute by volunteering if they cannot contribute monetarily. Come to the Jukskei River clean-up at Grace-Point Church in Helderfontein from 8am until 10.30am on 21 November.”

Williams added that they will then have a full-time crew starting their seven-day clean-up, who will help fill up 800 bags with plastic taken out of the river system. “We as the human race need to get to our roots and start appreciating what Mother Earth has given to us each day, freely. As a nation and as humans we need to pull together and start being kind, humble and be more aware.”

The proposed cut-off date for donations is 20 November. The initiative will help clean the river from Kyalami through to Glenferness and Lonehill.

Details: Community members who would like to assist by volunteering or donating money can do so by contacting Sean Williams on 082 907 7949.
