Tswane fire department pays Christ Church a visit

NOORDWYK – Tshwane Emergency Services gave a fire safety lesson to the Grade 5 class of Christ Church Preparatory School and College.

The Grade 5 learners at Christ Church Preparatory School and College received a special visit from the Tshwane Emergency Services on 6 October.

Spokesperson for the school, Dawn Schmitz said that lead fireman from the emergency services, Johann Moller, visited the school to teach them about fire safety. Schmitz said, “The interactive demonstration covered areas such as fire prevention in your home, what to do if a fire breaks out and safety when driving.”

“These areas included not overloading power sockets, staying below the smoke should there be a fire, the correct numbers to contact in an emergency as well as having a smoke alarm in your house. The wearing of safety belts at all times while in a vehicle was also discussed.”

She added, “Pupils were then entertained with three controlled fires, and there was great excitement as pupils witnessed fires being extinguished in a pot by placing the lid on and starving the fire of oxygen. Fire extinguishers were also displayed, resulting in a lot of smoke and giggles from the pupils.”
