Five nabbed for murder of Midrand women

MIDRAND– The Limpopo police arrested five suspects in connection with the horrific murder of two Midrand businesswomen.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of two Midrand businesswomen who were killed in Polokwane.

The five suspects, which included Mabusela-Leshabane’s husband were apprehended during an arrest that took place in the early hours of 22 October.

Provincial spokesperson for the Limpopo police Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said that the suspects, aged between 25 and 56, were charged with the murder of 46-year-old Makoena Mabusela-Leshabane and 35-year-old Tebogo Mphuti. The two women were murdered while they were with a local property agent viewing different business premises in Polokwane.

Mojapelo said, “The Limpopo provincial investigating team, the tracking team and Magama Investigators conducted a well-coordinated intelligence-driven operation and succeeded in arresting the suspects at different addresses in Ekurhuleni, Elsburg, Katlehong and Germiston.

“The red Hyundai Accent, which it is believed was used in the commission of the murders, two firearms, two magazines and thirteen live rounds of ammunition were seized during the early raids.”

The husband was arrested later in the morning at a hospital where he was admitted after he had allegedly attempted to commit suicide. “The suspects will also be charged with possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.”

Mojapelo said that one of the five suspects is Mabusela-Leshabane’s husband Thabo Stanley Leshabane. The four other suspects are John Zulu, Ndondo Buthelezi, Bhekimeze Phiyose and Thembelani Dlamini. They appeared at Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on 26 October. They were remanded in custody until

2 November for a formal bail application and further police investigation.
