Two suspects aged 17 and 29 arrested for theft in Rabie Ridge

MAYIBUYE – A man and his niece have been arrested for allegedly using their neighbour's bank card to make cash withdrawals.

Rabie Ridge police arrested two suspects on 11 October after they allegedly used their neighbour’s bank card to withdraw money.

Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, said the complainant alleged that she left Mayibuye for Limpopo at about 5am on 11 October.

“The following day while in Limpopo she started looking for her bank card as she wanted to deposit money but she could not find it. While trying to figure out where she left her bank card, she started receiving text notifications of money withdrawals on her cell phone,” he explained.

“She then came back from Limpopo and she went straight to where the money was withdrawn and asked to see the footage from the ATM.”

He added that upon being shown the footage, the victim noticed that the person who was withdrawing money using her bank card was her neighbour.

Nlhongo said the complainant approached her neighbor, a 29-year-old man, and asked him about her card. He allegedly told her his 17-year-old niece had given him the bank card and the pin code and asked him to withdraw money for her.

“The complainant then visited the Rabie Ridge Police Station and opened a case. A case of theft was opened and the two suspects, the man and his niece, were arrested and will appear at the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court to answer on a charge of theft.”
