Esteemed members bid farewell to Midrand Sector Crime Forum

MIDRAND – New members were elected to fill in the roles of the two members who left the Sector Crime Forum 1.

The Midrand Community Policing Forum’s Sector 1 Crime Forum (SCF) bid farewell to two valuable members on 6 October.

Former SCF chairman, Bruce Beevers will be immigrating to Scotland soon whilst volunteer Sally-Anne Smith will be moving to the United Arab Emirates with her family. Beevers and Smith shared their experiences in the fight against crime and working in the community.

Beevers said that it had been a pleasure being the Sector 1 chairman and that he was honoured to have made a lot of good friends. He said, “I will always have fond memories of some special operations with the South African Police Service, Johannesburg Metro police and local security friends and companies.

“People in the community working together to achieve the same goals has always been and will always be very important to me. I would like to wish the Sector 1 community, residents and new chairman every success – a special thanks to my sector manager for all the help and support.”

Smith joined the CPF SCF Sector 1 late last year and assisted with fundraising. She said, “The thing I love about the team in Sector 1 is that nobody has an ego and we all basically put on whatever hat we need to get a specific job done.

“We all try to create awareness in the community of what the CPF does, how they can help and get involved and that not all police are corrupt. Midrand police are working hard to catch the criminals in our area and do come to emergencies when called.”

Smith said it was really great to see how the CPF work closely with the police. “We had meetings once a month and once lockdown hit we continued with conference calls. Many think it’s patrolling and fighting alongside the police but that’s not the case – helping to raise funds to buy cameras or buy petrol for our patrollers to continue patrolling.”

Smith concluded, “I’ve always tried to do my bit for the community I live in, I feel everyone should try and do something even if you volunteer once a year to spend one hour picking up litter… If everyone did this, your neighbourhood would look a lot better.”

Station commander Brigadier David Tsotsotso and the management have appreciated the good work and the commitment the members have made to help the Midrand Police Station in fighting crime and to making themselves available when they were mostly needed.

Steven Johnston, chairman of the Midrand CPF highlighted that Beevers and Smith were pillars of strength to the community. “They were always willing to help anyone in need or distress. It did not matter what time of the day or night they were only a call away. I wish them and their families all the best in their new chapter of their lives.”

New members were added to replace the two volunteers.
