ICYMI: Sanitary pads donated to girls in need

NOORDWYK – "This is to also give assurance to all men out there that we are also capable of doing good," said Marvin Maphiri chairperson for the Amadoda Investment Club.

Learners at Midrand Primary School received a pleasant visit from local community members who donated boxes of sanitary pads on 6 October.

Nozuko Yawa, an activist in the community, partnered with local men’s forum, Amadoda Investment Club for the donation. Yawa explained that they wanted to assist the school with sanitary pads because they have done so at other schools where there were challenges of a similar nature.

“We then collected as individuals and came to donate at the school,” said Yawa. “Knowing the challenges the learners might be facing, I do not want this to be a once-off thing. “I therefore call upon our community members, organisations and all formations to help so we do not only donate to Midrand Primary but to other schools too, if possible to donate every two months. “There’s no formality, people can drop the pads at us or send money to us so we can buy the pads and donate to the schools.”

Marvin Maphiri, chairperson for the Amadoda Investment Club, said on behalf of all men, their intention was to extend the love that they have. “This is to also give assurance to all men out there that we are also capable of doing good like we have always done,” added Maphiri.

Kwena Kgaabi, principal at the school, welcomed the donations with gratitude. Kgaabi added that the school was grateful for this initiative and they hoped that it would continue because it helped to restore the dignity and the self esteem of the learners. “It also promotes a healthy lifestyle in them and it will help them with confidence to encourage them to come to school even during their monthly cycles, they won’t have to be away because they are going through their cycles.” Kgaabi concluded by encouraging learners to speak to their female teachers so they could be guided and assisted properly.
