Police track down Vorna Valley suspects

VORNA VALLEY – Two suspects arrested after Midrand police found them in the possession of alleged stolen goods.

Four suspects were arrested in Norwood for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle and stolen goods taken during a house robbery in Vorna Valley.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the house robbery occurred in Vorna Valley at about 1pm in the afternoon on 27 September.

“The complainant reported to the police that she was driving in a white Toyota Fortuner when she arrived home at her house’s gate,” she said.

“Her daughter opened the gate for her. Suddenly, she saw [about] five unknown males run into her yard,” she added.

“The complainant said that she and her daughter then quickly ran into the house, locking themselves inside after abandoning the car unlocked.

“Upon leaving the house after the suspects had fled the scene, the complainant noticed that the robbers had gone into her brother’s room, situated outside the house, where they were able to take two televisions, and four cell phones left in the complainants car.”

Tlamela added that the value of items taken was estimated at R10 000. All the suspects were wearing gloves but, fortunately, the police were able to obtain camera footage taken of the house of the complainant’s neighbour.

“Norwood police arrested the suspects in Norwood whilst they were in possession of the items they had stolen during the house robbery.

“Upon linking the two cases, the one in Norwood for suspected stolen goods and the one in Midrand for the Vorna Valley house robbery, all items were recovered. We further found that the number of suspects totalled four males.”

Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Eric Masotsha confirmed that the four suspects had been arrested after they were involved in a car chase with police. “It was found that the suspects were in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, therefore, a chase ensued and the driver lost control of the car causing the car to overturn,” Masotsha explained.

“Upon making the arrest, police found the items stolen from the Vorna Valley house. Two of the suspects were taken to a hospital after they got injured.

“The number of suspects guarded by police in hospital at the moment is one, the other was discharged on 29 September and is in police custody.”

Tlamela concluded that the four suspects would soon appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to answer charges of robbery.
