Alleged armed robbers killed in Olievenhoutbosch

OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH – Two suspects were killed by the community and three victims injured following an armed robbery.

The police have opened a case of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery following a shooting that left three people injured and two suspects dead.

Provincial spokesperson for the police Captain Kay Makhubele said the incident occurred on 24 September when four suspects entered a mall in Olievenhoutbosch and began shooting at the ceiling.

Makhubele added that the suspects allegedly began taking cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money from a store. He said the suspects allegedly shot a security guard working at the store, a woman and a girl.

The suspects were approached by the local community which led to two suspects fleeing the scene and the two other suspects were allegedly beaten to death.

Media liason officer for Netcare 911 Shawn Herbst said, “Reports from the scene indicate that a an adult male security guard, adult female and a minor female had been shot in what was alleged to be an armed robbery.

“When medics arrived on scene, they found all three patients had sustained moderate to serious injuries.”

Herbst added that the shooting allegedly started when the girl apparently shouted, startling the suspects who shot her and a the woman.

“All three patients were treated on scene and once stabilised were transported by ambulance under the care of advanced life support paramedics to hospital.”
Captain Makhubele also added that a case of armed robbery, murder and attempted murder had been opened and the police were currently investigating the incident.
