ICYMI: Three suspects caught with stolen items in Midrand

WATERFALL – Midrand police arrested three suspects for possession of stolen goods in Waterfall.

Officers of the Midrand Police Station arrested three suspects for the possession of stolen items after they were apprehended by mall security guards on 25 August.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the incident occurred at about 6.15am when an on duty security officer at the mall saw two female suspects walking to the parking area, one holding a brown bag and the other a black bag.

The suspects walked to a black Volkswagen Polo with a driver. As the security guard approached them, they sped off which prompted him to quickly close the gates of the parking area.

Tlamela added that the driver parked to the side and the security officer called for assistance. Once back-up arrived, the security guard asked the suspects to step out of the vehicle and searched their bags. The bags had a number of items from various stores with no proof of purchase. The items were valued at more than R5 000.

The security guard checked with one of the stores and confirmed that the items had been stolen. The Midrand police were called to the scene and the three suspects were arrested for possession of stolen goods.
