MIDRAND – The Midrand community mourned the loss of dedicated Metro police officer Thabo Mbewu.

The Midrand community mourned the loss of dedicated Metro police officer Thabo Mbewu on 17 August.

Shadow MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun said, “Officer Thabo Mbewu was based in Midrand, he was an active officer and worked well with the community and other security sectors.”

Sun added that Mbewu had fallen ill and was hospitalised before his unfortunate passing. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Spokesperson for the Metro police Wayne Minnaar said that the entity hosted a salute on 20 August to commemorate Mbewu. “The purpose of the salute was to acknowledge JMPD Officer Thabo Mbewu , for his hard work and dedication which he showed as a Metro police officer for the past 12 years.”

He added, “He started his career in 2008 and always went the extra mile when he did his duties. His boots were always shining and his uniform was always neat.”

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe, who worked closely with Mbewu, said, “He was a very active officer in Midrand, a great communicator with the public and on our groups. When he had a opinion he gave it to us and he stood up for what he believed in. My deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends at this time.”

Deppe added that the Midrand community came together with donations that she handed over to Mbewu’s family during a visit on 18 August.
