Suspects hit the gas in Halfway House

MIDRAND – The Midrand police are investigating a case of armed robbery following the theft of gas bottles at a filling station.

Midrand police are investigating a case of armed robbery after 30 gas tanks were stolen from a Halfway House filling station.

A video of the incident recently surfaced on social media and it shows two suspects in a white Toyota Quantum taking the gas tanks from the garage and loading them into the vehicle before leaving the scene.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the incident occurred at about 3.40am on 6 August. She added that the driver had approached the petrol attendant and asked for R100 worth of petrol. The attendant rendered the service before one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the petrol attendants and demanded that they go into the shop of the filling station store and stay there.

The suspects then proceeded to take the gas tanks and fled the scene. Tlamela added that the police were currently investigating the incident and no arrests have been made.
