Cops nab suspects with alcohol, cigarettes

MIDRAND – The suspect was also charged with contravention of Covid-19 lockdown Level 3 regulations.

Police arrested a suspect for alleged possession and sale of alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Elliot Mabulane said the arrest took place on the corner of Lupton Drive and Church Street in Midrand at approximately 3.15pm when the patrolling police officers searched and arrested the suspect.

Mabulane said, “The suspect was in possession of 750ml of alcohol. He was also in possession of and selling cigarettes and dagga, and was charged for this. Additionally, the suspect will be charged with contravening Level 3 lockdown regulations declared by the president.” The suspect is expected to appear in Midrand Magistrates’ Court to face these charges.

Mabulane added, “The Midrand police would like to commend the work done by their officers and we would like to urge the residents of Midrand to comply with the regulations in order to curb the spread of coronavirus. “We would also like to urge residents to stay at home and refrain from dealing in banned substances during the current lockdown.”
