While at David Makhubo High School, Motshekga said that she approached the government to open schools as she realised that learners will lose focus due to the disengagement from their education. She said she is also worried about an increase in teenage pregnancies while learners are not at school.
She added that she feels relieved that parents allowed children to go back to school even though it is a difficult period for many children. She said she is impressed by how schools have maintained safety protocols and have donated masks to learners.
On Return of Learners to School:
A further agreement by CEM is that all Grades that are part of the second cohort, should return to school in an orderly staggered fashion within, but later than the end of July 2020.#BackToSchoolSA
