Time to get involved in the 67 Blankets for Madiba project

JOBURG – Mandela Day secret scarves initiative is back for its 5th run.

Residents have been called to help knit and donate scarves for the Mandela Day project.

It’s that time of the year again when the KnitWits for Madiba pick up their needles, hooks and chosen wool of many colours to crochet and knit scarves for people that are desperate need of them.

The fifth 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day will host this nationwide initiative and organisers welcome with gratitude anyone wanting to be involved in making scarves and joining their 67 Blanket community.

Founder of the initiative Carolyn Steyn said, “On 8 July, we aim to spread joy and warmth all around our beautiful country. Parks and streets will be brightened with our labours of love.”

According to Steyn, each scarf will have a note attached reading ‘I am not lost. If you are cold and need me, please take me. Love, 67 Blankets xxx’, in all official languages. On 8 July the handmade scarves will be distributed to locations around the country for people to take and use to keep warm in the ice cold winter season.

Ambassadors around the country will co-ordinate the collection of scarves, a list of venues for distribution of scarves will be made available in due courseFor more information on the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative, follow them on Facebook at 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day (South Africa; Twitter @67blankets or Instagram @67Blankets or go to their website www.67blankets.co.za
