ICYMI: Cashbuild donates 10 wheelbarrows to Olievenhoutbosch initiative

OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH – Cashbuild donated 10 wheelbarrows to the Wheelbarrow Association in Olievenhoutbosch to assist in their operations.

Cashbuild made a special donation of 10 wheelbarrows to an Olievenhoutbosch-based association that assists their local community.

The Wheelbarrow Association was founded by local residents Tshepo Mmema and Thulasizwe Ntshangase during the Covid-19 lockdown with the primary purpose of assisting the elderly and people with disabilities when picking up food parcels by loading their goods into a wheelbarrow and transporting it to their respective homes.

Mmema said that they began the project when the Mahlasedi Foundation handed out food parcel to residents in the Olievenhoutbosch area in May and they loaded wheelbarrows for those struggling to carry.

He added, “We saw a need to deliver food to local community members and began this initiative to help carry heavy food parcels.”

The association has 600 wheelbarrows and the extra 10 were added when Cashbuild heard about their initiative. Ward 106 councillor Cedrick Tsela said, “It was a mammoth task they have done and volunteered to assist… They really heeded the call to assist and gave back to their local community. It’s very good initiatives and we hope that so many other people come together and join hands to assist our people.”

Corporate social investment (CSI) manager at Cashbuild, Thembelani Tukwayo said, “Our stance generally is to stand together with the community, so one of our suppliers Lasher heard about the initiative and brokered this donation with us… We believe in working collaboratively and we want to give the wheelbarrow association the tools of the trade to help their community.”

He added, “I’m incredibly pleased that we could make this contribution.”

Mmema concluded that the Wheelbarrow Association would like to call on other non-profit organisations to contact them in order to give back to the Olievenhoutbosch community.
