ICYMI: Organisation gives hope to impoverished residents in Midrand

MIDRAND – HopeSA helped donate 400 meals each with the help of various partners.

The HopeSA organisation aims to feed those in need, provide healthcare support and education to various communities.

It was established in 2001 in KwaZulu-Natal and later moved to Gauteng in 2011. The organisation has managed to donate 400 meals daily with assistance from Thava restaurant and private sponsors.

In addition, the organisation has 30 volunteers who assist in daily activities. They operate in Midrand, Tembisa, Alexandra and more townships in Gauteng.Namritha Sivanker, the founder of HopeSA, said she was inspired by situations faced by communities and townships.

“It was difficult to see people in the streets dying of hunger which forced me to take action. I took a journey to make a difference in communities rather than sit at home. Through this organisation, I have realised that there is much bigger things to accomplish in our communities.”

Sivanker is impressed by the support her organisation received from communities. “We have church leaders and kind-hearted people from various townships who approached us for support. We have left a mark in different townships.”

The organisation donated 92 food parcels in the previous donation drive in partnership with Lalela project. It also donates sanitisers and masks to communities and people who have limited access.HopeSA wishes to continue feeding communities and those in need.

In the future, it wishes to start a community skills centre which will focus on teaching and motivating, offering sewing classes and empowering people to use skills to make a living. Details: HopeSA Facebook page;Namritha Sivanker 073 995 2110.
