Officers arrests man for possession of police and military equipment

MIDRAND – The man has been on parole since 2016.

A man (47) who had been on parole since 2016 is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for the illegal possession of two firearms along with police and military uniforms as well as other law enforcement paraphernalia.

Law-enforcement officers, comprising staff from the Department of Community Safety and local police officers, received information about the man’s illegal possessions. Once they arrived at the address on 23 May, they found a man whose appearance matched the description provided.

The suspect was found in possession of a concealed handgun and another one was found in a bag he was carrying.Inside his residence, the officers found SA National Defence Force as well as police-issued bulletproof vests, uniforms and other paraphernalia, such as blue light, radio and handcuffs.

He had no license to possess the two firearms, the seven rounds of live ammunition and had no authority or basis for possession of the uniform. Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo from Ivory Park Police Station said he is impressed by the local community for continuously coming forward with positive information.

“We would like to thank the community of Ivory Park profusely for their valuable information. We promise to always take action as soon as something is brought to our attention.”This suspect had previously been in jail for more than seven years after he was convicted of car theft and attempted murder.
