Local aims to raise R20 000 for Gift of the Givers

NOORDWYK – Local resident Ash Naidoo hopes to raise R20 000 for the Gift of the Givers.

Noordwyk resident, Ash Naidoo decided to run 90km for charity due to the Comrades Marathon being cancelled this year.

On 14 June, Naidoo would have run her sixth Comrades on the day and so decided to mark the occasion with a nice long run around Midrand.

At the same time, Naidoo is raising funds through a BackaBuddy campaign for a Gift of the Givers Foundation which supports medical staff dealing with the coronavirus. The foundation provides much-needed medical equipment to these medical personnel, and Naidoo hopes to raise R20 000 for this cause.

“I am originally from Durban and I have run lots of races this side and that side,” she told the Midrand Reporter.Naidoo explained that this run will be different from past runs because she will set the route herself and will do it alone.

“With me, it is all or nothing. I would rather run a long stretch than do a circular route, but the route is not finalised yet.”

She explained that medical staff are on the front line of dealing with the coronavirus, and deserve all the support they can get.

“Funds raised will be used to purchase manual and automated ventilation equipment, safety equipment for medical staff and other medical supplies,” Naidoo said on her BackaBuddy page.”

Gift of the Givers is a member of the working group that monitors the needs of healthcare facilities across SA and funds donated through this campaign will be directed to those facilities with the most need. Any amount is most welcome.”
