Nhlakanipho Lushaba (28) fell in love with poetry and storytelling at a young age.

He was fortunate to be around people who mentored him to be the greatest in storytelling.Lushaba’s passion for poetry derived from the intellectual thinking of how slavery used to be the dominant force.

He was inspired by various writers who have the power to portray emotions through poetry and storytelling.Lushaba has won various awards through poetry which have paved the way to his success.

“The journey has been hectic as I encountered good and bad situations, but through it all, I managed to remain strong which enabled [me] to win Ekurhuleni Poetry Slam for 2018 and 2019, including other festivals that I took part in,” said Lushaba.

Last year he was granted an opportunity to perform in Seychelles which was a lifetime achievement. “I have tasted the bitter soil outside the borders of this country and I have learned that poetry comes from Africa as we have beautiful stories to tell. Poetry helps Africans learn more about life and nature.”Lushaba wishes every dreamer not to lose hope from being successful.

“Every dreamer has to keep in mind that the sky is never limit for even beyond the stars, it only requires guts to begin.”
