With the help of the Midrand community, Balwin Properties has graciously contributed to community-based support initiatives throughout the Joburg area during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The Balwin Foundation’s managing director, Theresa Vitale said that the property group has received numerous requests from various organisations, ward councillors, community liaison officers and forums for help with donations during the covid-19 lockdown.
“They are on the ground and experiencing the desperate need for food in their communities and we are more than happy to help,” she said.
The foundation contributed funds towards a campaign initiated by Ward 32 councillor Bongani Nkomo to help families in the Klipfontien area during the lockdown.”Through our donation, the team were able to purchase substantial food parcels which were handed out to families in the area,”We worked with the dynamic team at Mfudumalo Foundation to provide food parcels for child-headed and single-parent households in Klipfontein View in Midrand as well as bread and food for orphans and the elderly in Mamelodi, over the Easter weekend,” she said.
The Mfudumalo Foundation’s head of communication, Lufuno Mbedzi, said that the foundation is extremely grateful for help from all role-players and thankful for the donation and assistance in distributing the goods.
The property group’s foundation contributed to various other initiatives in the Joburg area, including a large donation of good for people living in Diepsloot. The Midrand Local Economic Empowerment NPC revealed at least a hundred families in the Diepsloot area were struggling during the lockdown.
Balwin assisted by providing funds for the purchase of food parcels for these needy families. The foundation also helped with the people of the WastePreneurs initiative, who are informal traders and car guards.
Balwin contributed funds towards a campaign run by Adreach that aims to support car guards, WastePreneurs and traffic light waste collectors and their families. “Balwin’s donation towards this national outreach will provide 1 000 of these families with food parcels and personal hygiene products,” said Vitale.
Balwin also supported the #HOPE4ALEX campaign, donating funds for non-perishable food, basic medicine, soap and sanitizers for 10 of the most vulnerable families in Alexandra. The property group also assisted Joburg North’s CoronaCare initiative with funding after reading a statement on their Facebook page that said, ‘It is when we come together with Ubuntu that we can provide the best possible solution to those in need in this time of crisis, leaving no South African behind’.
Vitale added, “As we continue to face the global challenge of Covid-19 and a national lockdown, we need to stand together and help each other. Balwin through the Balwin Foundation is assisting by collaborating nationally with local NPOs. To date, we have helped over 1 000 families.”
