Police roadblock yields results

MIDRAND – One suspect was arrested for dealing in cigarettes and dagga. Another three suspects were arrested for contravention of the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act.

Midrand police joined Metro police, national traffic officers and law enforcement officials for a roadblock on the corner of Allandale and Kyalami Main roads on 7 May.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the purpose of the operation was to enforce lockdown Level 4 regulations and prevent crime.

Tlamela reported that the operation was a success.

The law enforcement officials visited seven taxi ranks, six shopping centres and nine malls. They searched 166 persons and 69 vehicles.

Seven traffic fines were issued to the total value of R8 000. One suspect was arrested for dealing in cigarettes and dagga. The street value of these items was estimated at R6 000.

A further three suspects were arrested for contravention of the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act.

“All suspects were detained at Midrand SAPS and are due to appear in court within 48 hours,” said Tlamela.
