Kanana man is arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

KANANA – Rabie Ridge Police found one 9mm handgun, a short gun and rounds in a man's house after a resident tipped them off.

Rabie Ridge police have arrested a man in Kanana for the possession of unlicensed firearms.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, on 29 March officers were patrolling when they were approached by a member of the community who gave them information about a man who allegedly had two firearms in his house. “The police officers went to the described house in Kanana Ext 4. Upon arrival, they knocked and the suspect matching the description opened the door for them.

“Permission for searching the house was granted and two firearms were recovered. One 9mm was found on the suspects waist and a shotgun under his bed inside a blue bag.”

Nhlongo added that the officers also recovered more than 60 9mm and R1 rounds in the suspect’s house.

“The suspect was arrested and detained at the Rabie Ridge Police Station cells and will appear at the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.”

Sergeant Eddie Ngwako Selotola, the sector manager in Kanana Ext 4, thanked the community for their efforts to help fight crime by reporting to the police. “I would like to thank our community members who work hand in glove with the police to keep up the good work.”
