Bottle store owner and three others arrested for contravening lockdown regulations

Crime Prevention officers noticed three men loading liquor into their vehicle while responding to a complaint in Orlando East.

A bottle store owner and three others have been arrested for contravening lockdown regulations.

According to Faith Mazibuko, the MEC for Community Safety, the four people were arrested in Orlando East.

She explained that Crime Prevention members were attending a complaint in Orlando East. While driving along Masupha Street they spotted a white VW Polo off-loading bottles of liquor from a black backpack.

“They immediately stopped and approached the occupants to get an explanation of why they were transporting liquor during the Covid-19 lockdown.”

She added that the occupants were interviewed and they later confirmed that they bought liquor from a store Orlando East. “The SAPS members drove with the suspects to the liquor shop, found the owner, who was questioned about the selling of liquor during the lockdown.”

The owner allegedly denied that he had been selling liquor but later said that he had only sold the liquor found in the car.
