Covid 19: Midrand SPCA calls for assistance during lockdown

MIDRAND – The Midrand SPCA is calling on the community for assistance during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Midrand SPCA will be closed to the public during the 21-day lockdown and are calling on the local community for assistance.

While the SPCA will no longer be doing adoptions or vaccinations during this time, they will, of course, be caring for animals in need. General manager of the organisation, Pam Pretorius said, “We will be taking in stray and unwanted animals, taking care of our animals and three inspectors will be dealing with emergencies.”

With the restrictions on movement, the organisation has called on the community to only contact them for serious animal cruelty emergencies. “We do get a lot of nuisance calls. Basically, their neighbour’s dog is barking and they call us to sort it out. We would like to deal primarily with cruelty complaints during this period.”

The Midrand SPCA is also calling on the local community to provide any financial donations that could assist them going forward during this period.

Pretorius said that because they are not doing any vaccinations or adoptions, the organisation will not have a regular income stream during the lockdown. “We ask the community to please find a way to make financial donations of any kind to assist in the well-being of our staff and animals.”

Any residents willing to assist the organisation can contact them at
