Work on Cactus Road done

KYALAMI – Johannesburg Road Agency cleared up the mud pool on Cactus and Maple roads.

Maple Road is open to motorists after Johannesburg Road Agency conducted repairs on the road.

The corner of Maple and Cactus roads has been an issue for motorists in Kyalami in recent months with a large mud pool forming due to the lack of drainage in the area coupled with the heavy rains. Ward 94 councillor David Foley said that he had reported the issue to the JRA who came out and placed sand on the road to grade it and cover up the large mud pools.

In Cactus Road closed following rain in the Midrand Reporter [Week ending 20 March], it was reported that the sand placed on the road had made the issue worse due to heavy rains. JRA had to go back to the drawing board to find a solution.

JRA spokesperson Zoleka Jika had said that the agency would liaise with their depot and return to place harder sand that would be able to hold and even out the road.

Foley said that the agency has rectified the situation by placing semi-tar sand on the road that holds together when motorists drive over but also allows water to slide to the side rather than create mud pools. “They have done a fantastic job on the road which the residents in the area are very happy about. The road is much more resilient and works incredibly well. Residents will be able to drive on the road again.”
