Duo is sentenced to 15 years for Ebony Park robbery

EBONY PARK – The Midrand police are happy with the sentencing of two accused for a hijacking in Ebony Park.

The Midrand Police Station is happy to announce the sentencing of two accused for hijacking.

Spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the initial incident occurred on 23 October 2018 when the complainant was on 16th Road in Ebony Park selling cakes from his taxi. He was approached by a man who wanted to buy a cake and was handed R10. While he was trying to get change, two armed men appeared.

One hit the complainant over the head while the others jumped into his taxi and attempted to flee. The complainant ran to the nearest traffic light to call for help from local security and police officers who gave chase. The police found the hijacked taxi with two of the accused. They were arrested and one firearm was recovered during the arrest.

Both appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court charged with hijacking. On 3 March they were sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment.
