A Beaulieu College learner has won the Individual Stroke Play title at the Dainfern National College Championship.
Grade 12 learner Alessio Graziani won the title while competing in the contest which consisted of more than 60 schools from around the country.
While still in shock and disbelief about the achievement, Alessio said, “I feel happy with myself because I have never achieved a win of this status before in my life. It was a great feeling to win the entire thing – I played with top players and coming out on top is one of the best feelings I have experienced. Just a surreal feeling.”
Alessio said the game was tough, “I had challenges from the get-go, I played with top-ranked juniors and coming up on top was just amazing, I could not believe I could do it.
“The last stretch, the final three holes were the toughest because everything started tightening up. I came out the bogey on the sixteenth pole which narrowed the gap between second and first players.”
With motivation pumping after such a great achievement, Alessio said that he is looking at exploring the sport further. “Next year I will be heading overseas for a golfing scholarship, I have not decided on a university or college yet but we are in talks with a few coaches.”
Alessio gave this advice to anyone who wants to follow their passion, “Do not believe that you cannot do it. No matter how hard it is, keep pushing, do not quit, after time it eventually will come, guaranteed.”
Lynette Gray, marketing and admissions manager for Beaulieu College expressed excitement and joy on behalf of their school. She said, “This is an incredible achievement considering the best schoolboy golfers from around the country compete in this annual event. Beaulieu College is proud of what Alessio has achieved for himself.”
