Botshabelo celebrates 20 years since first baby
BLUE HILLS – Botshabelo hosted a small gathering to celebrate the admission of the first baby into their care 20 years ago.
Botshabelo celebrated the 20th anniversary of the day the first baby was introduced into their care on 10 March.
The celebration was a joyous affair with cake and balloons. The organisation began in 2000 with a focus of giving children from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to thrive through the various programmes they run including a children’s home, a pre-school and a teacher training programme.
The small celebration saw members of the Urban Life Church and Botshabelo including all its programme staff come together on the day of the first baby’s entry into Bosthabelo.
General manager of the organisation Michelle Hinrichsen said, “This year we celebrate our 20th birthday so it means that we have been in the business of changing lives for 20 years. But also we want to celebrate our milestones such as getting our first baby.
“In 20 years our biggest accomplishment has been the story of ‘The One’, that one child whose life is completely transformed by adoption, that one family with children who have a great preschool education, or that one kid who is able to gets the scholarship to go to a great high school.”
Pastor of Urban Life Church Craig Clark, who was featured in the Midrand Reporter’s article on the achievement 20 years ago, said, “When I look back at that day, I think at that time it was happening quite fast. But we all realised that we all had such a big responsibility which the organisation took on.”
